Free if you have other work required, otherwise yea a few hundred up to a thousand, depends on your lawyer and complication.

I am going to change my estimate and say $200 plus GST and $300 plus GST for two mutual Wills.

$200 to $300 is quite realistic for a straight forward will.

There's also the Public Trust for making wills.

They charge $289 for a basic will made at their offices, or $69 if done using their on-line service. The prices increase as the complexity increases, and the details are all published on their website, so that could give an indication of likely costs.

Just be aware of the Public Trust / trustee or similar like outfits who are in the will business.. they'll will want to be the executor of the will, so they can also "click the ticket" upon your death !!

Yes, and that can get very expensive.

The Public Trust (which is Government owned) offers that as a service in addition to making a will, but in my experience, it's not something they try to push on you when making a will.

Any organisation offering a "free" will service is much more likely to push other expensive services such as being executor of the will. Trustee companies have a legal limit on the maximum amount they can charge, whereas a lawyer can charge whatever they can get away with (although they have to tell you in advance how the charges will be calculated).

Please DO NOT use The Public Trust.
It took over 2 years for a friend to get their husband's estate paid out.

your assumption of costs is way behind the 8 ball, lawyers cannot charge what they like, they certainly cannot get away with anything and they don't go there at all, however public trust and any trustee company can charge what they like, all that I know of , have an opening file fee of $20k, there is no one to police them and no way of complaining about them. If the estate is small these trustee company's renounce and tell the executors to do it themselves,.
