Better google it - felt can be dodgy.

I watched this done a few times, on the Restore Shop tv program. They mix, I think, shampoo and shake it to get the bubbles. Scoop the bubbles over the fur and wipe with a soft cloth. No liquid was put on the fur at all.

The Repair Shop people do amazing jobs. Haven't seen them try to clean felted fur though the soap bubbles treatment would help any fur which is still sticking up.

HOW TO WASH YOUR BEAR
No matter how clean a home, bears kept on shelves and beds may well pick up dust or even acidic grit, which will penetrate the fur pile causing damage. Jointed or aged bears and toys can be washed, but it needs to be a careful operation.

Lightly brush and vacuum the bear.
Using a mild detergent, like baby shampoo, whip up suds and put only the bubbles on the bear.
Wring out a flannel and use it to remove the soap. Avoid scrubbing, wringing and rubbing.
Dry naturally, by sitting the bear on a towel in the airing cupboard. If the job has been done properly it should not be that wet.
If the toy is two-tone, like a panda, consider taking it apart for washing to avoid the risk of dyes bleeding from one area to the next.
Consider using insect-repelling cedar wood balls and lavender bags within your bear collection.

eaglefan, what great information. I have lots of teddies around the house and one day they will need this treatment I'm sure. Thank you.
