What password are you referring to? The one for complimentary wifi?

If you run Windows 10 you can follow here to connect to the wireless network and input the password to connect to the wifi.

I never use any complimentary third party-wifi anywhere. Much more private and safer not to!
I have a hotspot option on my Samsung A21s phone, data options on my Vodafone prepay account and I create my own wifi signal if I need one when I take a laptop with me.

Yeah makes sense but I don't think the OP would know how to do that.

I didn't 'prejudge' - initially you said:

Now you're saying that although you didn't know how to use a wifi password someone gave you at checkin to connect to a motel/hotel wifi you have now managed to create a hotspot on your phone and input the correct login details for this to your laptop ?

The hotspot isn't too tricky top get going. Personally I'd just use the hotel wifi.

Generally the code is used after connecting to an open wifi, and the device will be redirected to a page that accepts the code.
Then you will have some level (usually poor) of wifi.

Never had a problem with Hotel WiFi, but I usually just check emails, quickly answer any that need it, on the server, then logout again. Leave them all on the server until I get back home, then download to the PC.

Laptop is set up to send, but never receive, emails.
