Google Hiding..

#Post
1

Why are so many highly relevant conversations- especially about google faults & issues it seems- seemingly always LOCKED? Just as I start to get near an answer from the mysterious and ever-elusive Mr Google- blam- the door slams shut. I think it's a travesty the way google hides behind a "locked" status but also seems unable to have consistent, workable processes (google "My Maps" at present for example). I think there would be an outcry if anyone else tried a tactic like that..They make enough money out of us so why can't they just have honest-to-god instruction manuals like there used to be? Rant over..

If I had any idea what you are talking about I might make a comment relevant to your issue.

Guessing they don't want to highlight issues they have no plans to fix. We as a community are too dependent on Google products - might be a good time to find other options.

Google isn't the only search engine out there by a long shot.

All the big tech giants are controlling what we see and suppressing free speech. Therefore you only see what they want you to see.

Hmm maybe. Is this any way different to 'all the big media giants controlling what we see ' all these years ?

Personally I think the internet has opened many more channels of info for us all and to take such a paranoid view isn't accurate by a country mile.

oh yes of course and once they have everyone fully ensconced, then they start the censoring. Only most people don’t realise it’s happening and end up having their thoughts manipulated. It’s why I also no longer watch the news on TV. It’s quite sickening actually.

that are all just as bad as each other. Manipulating what we see as ‘news’. And yes I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist but believe me I am not.

You may get some perspective from listening to talkback but even that has started to be censored. It’s actually very concerning.

How do you know this ?

because I am aware by reading all sorts of media, from all sides, trying to find what is fact and what is being purported as fact and what is real and what is fake. It’s a minefield I tell ya!

Errrmmm you do realise that you can access many foreign news channels by satellite if you have a dish and know what you're doing ? Also you can buy actual foreign printed news papers, you can also access shortwave, long wave radio and get direct news from other countries and any time you like you can cross reference this with stuff from the internet. And yet you stil think 'they' are running a world wide conspiracy ?

just lol that’s all I can say.....it’s not just New Zealand where this is happening.

Please just do some research and open your eyes more to what is going on around you. That’s all.

Forums all over the internet, not just google, use locks for various reasons... some of which might include
- no posts in the last X weeks - to prevent old threads from being reopened, forum requires new threads for new issues
- thread has got off topic and no longer dealing with the initial issue
- initial issue has been dealt with
- thread has turned into a verbal slinging match
probably more...
it is very common to lock threads, it is not a hidden agenda of some insidious global organisation trying to control the world view

I agree, it is a bit much isn’t it? Having to do all the research oneself - I mean isn’t that what journalists are for? Well they used to be anyway!

Sorry- let me restate the situation.

I can't find a meaningful set of instructions/ explanation of how to reliably use Google "My Maps".

I'm finding it really frustrating that I put a huge amount of time and energy into setting up a Google "My Map" for a pending trip, only to find serious limitations which rendered it useless AFTER I'd put all the time and effort into it.

It was then that I realised there are neither simple instructions on how to use this programme, NOR any explanation as to why they restrict the extent it can be used.

At the same time they push it as a fantastic programme to use when planning a trip which I thought it was until I tried (unsuccessfuly) to use it.

It's not. And I just wondered whether anyone else had found an underlying agenda with the thing?

If not, and it's my lack of understanding, that's OK too and I will just look for another programme to use for trip planning.

So when you find journalists or news outlets with differing perspectives you just decide which one to believe based on what??? I mean given you are not the one interviewing a subject and were not their yourself you just take a stab in the dark at which side is correct. Sounds very unreliable.

things are either facts or they are opinions. I am only interested in facts. Therefore that renders most of ‘the media’ redundant to me because most of what is trotted out today is just people paid for their opinions. That isn’t news.

that's nice . But if you were to detail the exact problem you have we might be able to help. Otherwise it's not going to happen.

You are a genius !

Well the OP might think so - however I suspect you used Google to find these answers lol ? The OP said:

Which, (not that I claim to understand what they're talking about really !), appears perhaps to suggest they didn't have much luck in that direction. Oh well. Lifes a bit of a mystery sometimes.

Yes, I typed into google "google my maps documentation" and into youtube "google my maps tutorial"

There is some information out there if one searches the right keywords.

I think OP's issue relates to limitations on the number of locations and how they can be joined when using the web page. 10 locations per layer and 10 layers?

The google web sites, and most third party web sites, seem not to address these limitations and if someone (like OP) starts out assuming that all will be well - they run in to frustration and disappointment.

Once they have encountered the problem they can begin to search for that.

google is constantly developing its apps. maps for instance can do things in 2021 that it couldn't in 2018. maps is a very useful app, and its live data is a big part of that (ie when it suggests an alternate route because of traffic jams ahead )
Not sure what device you are using? If its maps on a android phone or tablet, its quite different to maps website via chrome to interact with.

I think most of us can suss out "fake news" ( I can't imitate the orange one's accent in print lol ). Try reading the reputable papers, and there are lots of other good reliable news sources out there.
Personally I'd rather chew my right arm off than listen to talk back radio, but everyone's different I suppose.

Try the National Programme. No ads, and they don't have talkback and you end up with a balanced view as they don't have influence over what they produce as they are funded by NZ On Air.

RNZ like climate alarmists and won't let any sceptics on air.
They and Stuff and the NZ Herald have been lying about Trump for 4 years.

I have been a member of most left wing parties, and never any right wing parties. However I like to look at the facts and the science, which Labour and the Greens have stopped doing. I still help the poor and unfortunate.
