Power meters

1 | Does anyone know who owns the meter? Is it the property owner? redden39 - 2021-01-01 23:23:00 |
2 | I thought it was usually the power company, but I had heard of cases where some older meters were owned by the property owner? justinian1 - 2021-01-01 23:37:00 |
3 | As we can change power companies on a whim, I didn't think it could be thhem. The reason for my question is I've had a letter saying my electricity provider wants to change my analog meter for a smart meter. I changed providers when Contact said they were changing my meter for a smart meter. redden39 - 2021-01-01 23:47:00 |
4 | Probably the lines company. You have to provide the cabinet though. apollo11 - 2021-01-02 00:01:00 |
5 | Smart meters are great. No more meter readers as they send the data to your power provider and if you want you can use apps/website of your provider to see your usage by the month, week, day even by the hour. It helps to show you where and when you use your power. There shouldn't be a cost. I've had one for over 10 years or more. oakcottage - 2021-01-02 00:13:00 |

9 | We have a smart meter- they never even gave us a choice when we were getting set up here. What's the problem with them? apollo11 - 2021-01-02 08:04:00 |

So, I spent about 5 mins looking through those website, especially the first one, and struggled to get past the pseudoscience and woo. Is anti-smartmeters a bit like anti-vaccination? pico42 - 2021-01-02 08:34:00 |

20 | Our smart meter can not be read remotely because we have poor coverage here. They still have to send a meter reader every couple of months to read it. strathview - 2021-01-02 14:19:00 |

When I got mine swapped over we found out the old meter was fast so I ask for a credit on the previous years, we worked out something we were both happy with. worked out well. loud_37 - 2021-01-02 21:26:00 |

Smart Meters only send a signal down the line for a fraction of a second a couple of times a day . They donot transmit all the time . martin11 - 2021-01-03 07:51:00 |

34 | gunna-1 wrote: I think you confuse correlation with causation. Smartmeters transmit data using older GPRS (2G) tech and fire back usage data in bursts every 30 or so minutes, The total broadcast time is around 1 minute a day. And at the same time, most people are sitting within 1 metre of their mobile phones, commenting on here on their wifi-laptops, watching their wifi-connected smarts TVs, whilst lunch heats up in the microwave. Check your phone signal strength...all good, you're probably pretty close to a cell tower or three. What I'm saying here is that if you are concerned about the effects of EMF on the body (which indeed is a complex electrical mechanism), your smart meter might be the least of your concerns. And if you are suddenly having the symptoms you mention, you really need to see a doc to rule out any other significant health issues, which might be easily treatable. All the best. sparkychap - 2021-01-03 09:09:00 |

36 | My power readings have been consistent before and after the smart meter was installed. The data displayed is almost useless, e.g. I cannot tell the rate power is being used. trade4us2 - 2021-01-03 10:13:00 |

45 | Smart meters measure power usage very accurately, whereas the old mechanical meters had a tendency to under-read due to friction especially at the low end of the power range. masturbidder - 2021-01-03 12:18:00 |
46 | Hilarious stuff the only way to avoid electromagnetic radiation on Earth is to live in a lead box then die of lead poisoning lol. gamefisher - 2021-01-03 12:24:00 |
47 | pover companies should offer 15% discount for those on smart meters due to the fact that they don't need to employ meter readers to call on them every month. See if people are happy to keep their old meters then. stevo2 - 2021-01-03 13:20:00 |
48 | We've had a smart meter since they first came out years ago, [don't think we had a choice]. Have changed power company within that time about two years ago. Works well & saves opening the door half dressed to let the cat in to find the meter man opening the power box haha. $50 last power account the other day but still running the fire late at night a bit to heat the water for morning showerx2 & dishes. Should turn water heating on but too stingy lol. Oh, & burn the kitchen rubbish last thing at night so no rubbish bags to put out plus take recycling around regularly. Sometimes my wife brings me presents home from there lol. yz490 - 2021-01-03 13:36:00 |
49 | Ha. Sounds like my Yz.. fire and solar for heating the rain water. Solar and wind for the power. No sewage charges, No rates bill because the kids pay and claim it.. No nasty pollution of any sort... or neighbors to annoy me... mechnificent - 2021-01-03 13:44:00 |
