How do I get rid of Edge

#Post
1

Have set Chrome as the browser.
Edge keeps popping up whenever the laptop is restarted from sleep.
I have gone into settings and tried to uninstall; but that button is greyed out.

Help please Peter

What do you mean 'Edge keeps popping up' ?
Exactly ?

If you want to remove it go here:

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features

find Microsoft Edge in the list
Right clik it one time
Left clik the box that comes up which says 'change'.....

and go from there.

You cant uninstall it. Go settings, apps then default apps on left, scroll down to web browser, click it on browser to open list and click chrome.

Actually I tried what I'd suggested and after the 'change' box all it did was - well - nothing. It seems you can't uninstall it. Hmmm....easy enough to stop it autostarting though if you need to.

Firstly I refer you to my earlier question

'What do you mean 'Edge keeps popping up' ?
Exactly ?'

I am quite sure I have had this before. What you need to do is change the lock screen back ground to 'picture' in the drop down box.

Place the cursor in an empty part of the desktop, right click, click on personalise, click on lock screen, click on background and choose picture.

Done!

Edge popping up at start up should now be fixed.

Weird

If while on the lock screen you click details of the picture it will open Edge after you sign in. This is Microsoft's way of getting you to use their browser.
Which is why what muppet_slayer suggested will work.

Remember there was a court case many years ago about Microsoft trying to get you to use their browser?

Firefox has no problems for me.

Ya can't. It's another of these 'forced-upon-us' applications by those who know best. Similar to Noroton - both are as bad as viruses.

What makes you think that Micro$oft care about the findings of a piffly tiddly court judge?

I think it was the European Union (?) and Microsucks wasn't allowed to bully you into their browser in Europe. Windows was available without a browser from memory. Pity we couldn't do the same here.

TBH a big majority of ordinary computer users/buyers have NO idea what a browser is. Offering to supply them with a computer which had no browser would go right over their heads.
