Phone battery

#Post

The battery in my partner's Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro was getting a bit tired. We bought a new battery, which according to the packaging is a genuine Samsung, but it was not expensive, so I have my doubts. Anyway, I know it takes a few charges for a new battery to get up to full capacity, but it has been over a week now and battery life seems no better than it was with the old battery. Comments please?

You bought a dud battery.

Had the battery replaced in my old iPhone 6s a few years ago by the authorised service agent and it was perfect on day one.

Err really ?
From the web: "New iPhones typically come with a 100% capacity".
I'd imaging Android phones are not any different.

You got a dud battery. Did you buy it from a legit Samsung Authorised dealer ?

Is your phone actually using that battery power, to run a heap of apps in the background?
Should have a battery usage monitor somewhere, that may be worth checking before returning it.
on my android 10 huawei its, settings, battery, battery usage, which then gives a percentage list of what is using power, under 2 headings, hardware and software.
And also has "battery consumption details", below "battery usage" in menu, for history since last charge for hardware and software, with top 5 battery using apps as well.

Plenty of cheap/rubbish batteries from China with the 'right' product name on them.

Did you buy it on Aliexpress, or maybe from a reseller who did?

Good/proper batteries are full charge from the get-go.

Lithium Ion batteries degrade with age, regardless of being used, look for a date stamp on the battery or packaging and compare it with the markings on the battery you replaced.

Without offering any proof, I'll say they lose 17% of capacity every year.

Turn off location.

Shouldn't make much difference.
Start phone in safe mode. If it helps significantly then it's an app/battery use issue. If not your battery is more than likely not a good one.

What P/N is the battery? I might have some spare ones here.

If it was quite a bit cheaper than you would expect then it is almost certainly a cheap copy and the way it is performing confirms it. Phone batteries typically come 50% charged but only require one charge to be brought up to maximum capacity. Any site that says it needs several charges to get to maximum capacity should be avoided. There are huge amount of cheap copies around and you have just got one

Several charges was on the old school ni-cad or ni-mh batteries.

Got it from these people

Cost was $18, so maybe a counterfeit?

I thought from looking at their website that they would be a legitimate dealer, but who knows?
https://raytech.co.nz/
As well as saying Samsung on the battery, packaging has the name and the Samsung website address on it.
