Darn thing. Turns off for some reason, and cant get it back on. Next day be fine, then after halfhour- one hour dies again.

No power cord plugged in. Battery will be about 80%. Tonight it starts and says Samsung, then dead.

Dying battery pack almost certainly, the charge controller is protecting the battery/device/your house and fire insurance by shutting it down.

Yeah it's a failing battery pack.

Remember when Apple got flack for 'slowing down' their older phones? That was done to stop unexpected shutdowns on phones with degraded batteries.
