iPhone screen broke

#Post
1

So, I dropped my i7 on the bathroom tiles. It landed on its corner and cracked the screen.
Is it OK to trust my friendly "in Mall" repair man or must I really really take the phone across town to an "Apple Authorised Repairer"?
Got quoted $139 at the Mall and pick up after 1:00 hr. Mall man says Apple centre repairs will be twice as much and take a week.
What do you think folks?
Screen replacements are probably most common repairs.
I don't think there is a big risk.
I can save time and money.

Shop around as most only charge 50 - 60, as a screen is only 35

Apple centre won't take a week, if it was booked in it would be similar timeframe to mall repairer. It would be twice the price though.

Great comments.
And, I've just viewed some YouTube videos showing step by step process to do the job myself. Would need to get tools - basic set from Amazon. Process is then straight forward - taking care, keeping components in good order etc. Where (in Auckland) can I get replacement screen kit for i7? Does kit include gasket?

Getting the tools from Amazon would take ages.

I don't know about iphones, but I've tried on about 3 times on a galaxy without any luck, so you might be better off to get the mall guy or girl to do it, or some other dodgy outfit.

You can buy a screen with tools off here for under $40 if you search ``iphone screen tool''.

Thanks for that info Chris.
I don't plan to EVER break my screen again.
I've drilled a hole right through the phone and have threaded a cord and loop so I can hang the phone around my neck!!!

Hell I hope the phone still works lol. Theres not many places you could drill a hole thru one without causing severe damage.

You must be kidding. That was supposed to be a water resistant phone. It won't be now.

I once dropped my phone into the toilet. I hadn't taken it in there to read as such but took it out of my pocket before I sat down and placed it on the little stand by the throne. As I went to grab it after the business it slipped out of my hand and fell in the bog - after flushing had finished thank god lol. I shrieked and grabbed it and Hubby came to see what was the matter. He just laughed and told me it was a waterproof phone and just to dry it off on the outside and all good. Lucky lol.

And yeah I thought you might been joking.
