Do you mean this... https://gazette.govt.nz/

Not sure if it will help you. Local council may have a better idea.

Or bona vacantia.

NZ's tenure system is a bit tighter than others so while these things do happen it is not as frequently as in countries such as the UK where they have a deeds system and not the Torrens system backed by good/young cadastral survey. Worked in this area for many years and crown claiming, when looking at boundaries of National Parks etc was more usual, or large farms where areas had been swallowed up in farming ops, or when land is subdivided. Always the emphasis was on finding the owner/descendants then allowing negotiations rather than letting another person claim land.

I have seen more sales by local bodies for unpaid rates recently but that is not a squatting adverse possession situation.

Best areas to do this I would think would be in former towns, laid out such as gold mining towns where a pattern of subdivision exists but the owners are long gone. I think you will find though that neighbouring locals will have been grazing/ using and will have a better adverse possession claim than later arrivals.

NZ Gazette used to be full of land related material moving land in or out of Crown's estate. Haven't seen it for years so don't know about currently.

If a house and property sat unoccupied for 10 years without any "known" owner, would not the city council have already taken it over in order to recoup some rates.??
