Read the specs for whatever you are looking at . They all 'extend' your internet signal round the house etc using the power wiring. SOME have at the 'far end' wifi capability also.

extender probably has a wifi access point on one end, which might make it a subset of the Powerline adapter

Do these introduce noise into the power lines?

I was wondering if these are going to introduce additional frequencies which could affect other equipment, such as audio equipment?

they either work or they don't, never come across any interfering with anything else though. What can stop them working though is surge protected power boards and I have heard but cant confirm, RCDs on modern switchboards

Yes some do, and the power lines act as an aerial and radiate the noise as high frequency interference which can wipe out shortwave radio reception in neighbouring properties.

I thought that might be the case. I believe that network cables could possibly be shielded shielded and mains cables are not.

Network cables might not be, but they are not going to interfere with the power supply of other equipment.

I've been getting into recording music at home, so I have an appreciation of clean power now.
