So Airbnb has actually has little impact ?

Last few years Airbnb was the go to blame for the rental shortages , can we still blame Airbnb or do we know now that was just pushed by the motel/hotel associations?

They only have to have them filled two or three nights a week to eclipse what a long term rental would be.

I had to do just that this last weekend. Small NZ town - both motels were closed to new booking - but demonstrably busy when we drove past . Obviously not quarantined by homeless or contractors would be my guess.

The airbnb was pleasant and over priced

Small motels aren't used for quarantine. They're only using larger hotels as it's more efficient for health staff and security, plus the facility needs a full catering kitchen to provide meals as well.
