Bond refund possible?

1 | Hi All, trying to help someone with something I have no experience with... My friend was going to move into a new rental house and paid a bond several weeks before the planned "move in" date. There has since been several long phone calls late into the night and the landlords parents have even got involved, it has got to the point where she believes they are going to make any future dealings almost impossible, and maybe even borderline unsafe living on the same property as the landlord =( Does anyone know what the law has to say about a bond being refunded before a tenant moves into a property? yellowsubmarine - 2020-11-13 23:16:00 |

4 | No tenancy agreement was signed by either party and no evidence the bond has been lodged yet.. yellowsubmarine - 2020-11-14 17:35:00 |

6 | Suggest the folk concerned lodge a refund of bond form immediately with the Bond Centre, including as much information as possible and a covering note to say no tenancy agreement has been signed by either party. A probable outcome is that the Bond Centre will contact the landlord to clarify the situation and with a spot of luck the landlord will refund the bond and close down the issue. There is the possibility that the Bond Centre will say the period to lodge the bond is not up yet so they can't or won't act until then. In either case letting the landlord know that the Bond Centre is involved should provoke some response, hopefully the bond refunded. Lesson for the friend in future - not meant unkindly, renting can be complicated. artemis - 2020-11-14 17:51:00 |
7 | Sounds more like a boarding arrangement than a tenancy. jonners2013 - 2020-11-16 13:26:00 |

Only needs to be lodged if it's actually a tenancy, not a boarding/flatting situation. I'd be very hesitant to hand over bond money for flatting where you aren't on a written agreement. sw20 - 2020-11-16 19:32:00 |
