I never asked for edge!

#Post
1

My older windows 7 computer installed it automatically, and I'm getting tons of complaints from others who have lost their "google" lol.

Seems its even importing your browsing data over from Chrome without your permission too.

Are Microsoft trying to start browser war 2?

Google is a search engine not a browser.
You mean Chrome?

Obviously Google is a search engine, but the average Joe don't have a bloody clue what google is lol

In most cases chrome users will have google as their homepage anyway, and if edge takes over everything goes to bing.

If you know enough about changing search engines and/or default browsers to begin with, then likely they don't need to call me for help to begin with lol

Yup, I get this as a daily occurrence.

After many weeks of playing, have figured how to exterminate this virus called 'edge'.

Boot in safe mode.
Locate the edge folder and nuke it.
Locate the 11 entries in the registry and nuke tham all.
Reboot in normal mode.

are you referring to newer Chromium based Edge or the original win 10 Edge? I would have thought there would be more than one folder involved...

Or they think their system box is the 'hard drive'.

There may well be but nuking that one folder stops it from even starting up.

I too never asked for edge!! I'm having what seems to be similar problems as the original poster here. Can I say I, (and I suggest lots of others on here) become thoroughly confused when, just as all seems to be going OK, along comes bing- or some other cowboy wildcard- and stuffs everything up. Now I suggest that none of us are idiots, but..like others I suggest I get thoroughly confused and disoriented trying to work out which is my browser., what does bing do, why does it do it, etc. etc. etc. just to get back home to first base. It literally does my head in as I suggest it does to others. I also believe that it's not because we're stupid- but just that there's nowhere you can go to get a simple, sensible, plain understanding of the intricacies and complexities of "the game" such as you can keep up with it/ stay ahead of it. So please, some sympathy while we wade through all this (and thanks for those who are sympathetic, supportive & helpful instead of criticizing while we grapple with this increasingly complex and convoluted can of worms.

A browser is simply a program that lets you browse around the internet. There are many.... You can have multiple different browsers installed and choose only to use the one(s) you prefer.

How can you call it a search engine when they block a lot of info, also the amount of info they get from it to on sell is where they make their money. If you're not paying for a product, you are the product.

Don't use windows then. It's part of the system.

You have proof of this ?

So what ? That makes it less of a search engine - how ?

When I started using the internet, Altavista was the hot ticket for search engines.

Google
Yahoo
AltaVista
Metacrawler
Lycos
Excite
InfoSeek
LookSmart
WebCrawler
Search AOL
Hotbot

Are just some of the many back then. Hubby created a little Widows stand alone program which had many links on it and those were under the category 'Search Engines' - He called it 'Linker' lol.

Probably had about 100 quick access links on it. Quite handy - possibly would still be but not all of them would work now as that was back in 2001.
It was for news/mail/chat/music

Nonsense. Search engine optimisation on Google is not based on how much money you pay. I know this because I pay a person to optimise my business website for good SEO - it's not Google that I'm paying, it's an independent company.

Google Search is a search engine.

Google Ads is an advertising system in which the ads are displayed at the top and bottom of search results (and on other participating websites) - they are completely independent of organic search results. If you pay loads for Google Ads, it does not improve SEO for your website and will not improve your ranking in organic search results.

Google as a company is an advertising company as is Facebook, i'm not talking about paying them anything, they use your search data to sell to other companies for advertising.

I wouldn't pay anyone for that type of work, as its been proven to be all manipulated.
