Specs of the current one?

Why do you want to change it to Win10 ?
Win10 is a free upgrade anyway.
'Overhauled' ?

Tell us more about the existing computer otherwise theres NO way anyone could be possibly expected to comment on whether you'll need to replace it or not in order to run Win10. At a *Guess* I'd say not necessarily.

We have 4 laptops here and one desktop all designed to run windows 7 all running windows 10 without a problem. I love windows 10 it is a very versatile OS. Beware though just because all of mine run windows 10 fine doesn't mean yours will. It all depends on your system and hardware configuration.

I would upgrade it. If it runs Windows 7 it will almost certainly run Windows 10. You can still upgrade for free from the Microsoft website (Even though it does not say its free) Back up all your files first

Use the windows 7 license to activate it. Does not wipe any files just upgrades the OS so all software and files remain untouched.

Some tricky little catches there depending on how you do it & from what version

you have a month to roll back if it doesn't work right, so nothing to lose really.

It would be nice if you'd bother to actually address some of the questions we ask. It would help you. And it might be polite also. A lot of people put on time and effort to try to answer your questions. You don't seem to reciprocate.

What is your Windows Experience Index score in windows 7? If it's 5.0 up it should upgrade fine. If your score is 2.0 or 3.0, depending on what hardware has scored the lowest, it may not.

This is how you can get your win 10 upgrade, without any catches.

Download the win10 install iso using the media creation tool from here.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Either onto a suitable usb drive, (assuming the machine is capable of booting from usb). Or you can just download the ISO and build the usb drive later with something like rufus or balena etcher etc.

Note: DO NOT reboot the machine from usb and do a clean install, you will end up with no license and will then need to then buy one. Entering a win 7 license during clean install is not guarenteed to work and/or applicable to all licenses and you run a good chance of being left stranded with no license. Bad idea.

You must start the install from WITHIN the already running OS, that way the currently active win7 license will be used for the upgrade without catch.

Any clean install must only come after you have done an upgrade in place install initially and only then if you decide you'd like a clean install. REPEAT: This must only be done once your machine has completed an upgrade to win10 that was started from within win7 and that upgrade has completed, connected to the internet and finished activateing. Check the activation status in

Settings>update & security>Activation

After you are certain it's activated you can then reboot the machine from the usb drive and do a clean install if you so desire (recommended.)

In that case I think we are flogging a dead horse. It might pay to take #7's offer and take it to them. That is if they are still offering. Apparently they are local to you.

Errmmm this thread is over a year old. I reckon they got it sorted

as far as I can work out the ops last message #14 was posted today at 2.50pm. Post #13 was the last post from last year.

Also, for it to be brought to the front somebody must have posted in it recently, that being ops post #14. Maybe they haven't got it sorted?

Hey I didn't notice the date of that lady OP message. Jeez talk about a looonnngg time frame for this thread.

Why even bother helping those ones?

Between #13 and #14, the clock went back! Surele not a year apart - aren't messages nuked after a year?

I'm sure they didn't used to be.
Yeah it's odd, maybe their date thing has gone screwy

I'm good, but Im not quite at timelord status yet.

yet...

Maybe Trademe could show the year that posts were made.
Or is that too logical?

Its redundant, its obvious what year is what by just looking at the sequence of dates and knowing what day it is, is that too difficult?

Sometimes it's impossible. So yes it is too difficult.

if you put the mouse over the "quote" link, the quote=value seems to be the unique post id number. you can see a large jump in that number between post #13 and #14 which suggests #14 is a much later post
