Casting from Chromecast

#Post
1

Have been using chromecast to cast to a big screen tv from my iphone for some time but as of yesterday, something seems to have changed and it now seems to have stopped working?? Coronavirus?? On calling Chromecast, there's now a recorded message that phone support is not available -only through 'online chat, twitter or facebook messenger. Additional support through the "Help Centre" or Community Forum". I tried facebook but can't actually locate the posting i did yesterday trying to find what's going on??

Is anyone aware of any changes over the last week? How are other people casting their programmes if not using Chromecast, or is that the only free option available?

They do stop working every now and then, try a reset of the caster either via the home app or hold the button in for about 15sec on the caster, and maybe reinstall the Google home app also.

By "reset of the caster", do you mean unplugging the chromecast device from the TV? Or do you mean doing something on the device (an iphone) I use to cast from? I also can't find any "buttons" anywhere on the device plugged into the TV?

However, have reinstalled the the Google home app but it made no difference.

I've noted- presumably because of the pandemic causing staff shortages??- a lack of support from, for instance vodafone, and I wonder whether that may be why the abrupt "go away" message from the usually helpful Chromecast people? Seems to be a major gap in product support and would be helpful if they just said that staff are sick hence unavailable in their "go away" messages..if that's what this is all about.

Our chromecast has a very small hard to see button for reset while pluged into power and tv, otherwise there is a setting in the google home app for a reset.

Have never used a Chromecast device.

We have lots of home/travel videos on a computer in the study (on wifi).

Can a person use the Chromecast Ultra to choose and watch video on a TV from a file share, or would they have to go to the computer and 'push' them each time?

Of course.. (!) overnight, coincidentally after I commented on Facebook that Chromecast wasn't working, got up this morning and there it was..

Best thing we ever did soundsgood, and in these 'days of plague' when everyone's stuck at home, I can thoroughly recommend chromecasting netflix or TVNZ on demand onto a (bigscreen) TV to while away the days...

People watching TVNZ on demand on Chromecast, do you have problems with it disconnecting? It happens to me just about every night. I can still cast other sites like Old Movies and YouTube. Only TVNZ plays up. My internet speed still tests okay. Is it the TVNZ server overloaded?

I’m currently having this problem too. TVNZ on demand on my iPad works fine but as soon as I use it via chrome cast it constantly freezes on me. I can use Three on demand through chrome cast no worries. It’s very frustrating. I have unplugged the chrome cast and it hasn’t made any difference.
