Cold cooked chicken

#Post
1

I purchased a supermarket rotisserie chicken yesterday and it has been in the refrigerator overnight. Can I cut chicken up and freeze for use during the week, as cold meat, not reheated?

If you are happy that it had just been cooked, was still hot when you bought it and it went straight into your fridge.

Yes i am happy with that but then i read on the package it was put into, not to freeze. I rang their help line and they said chicken carries lots of potential for illness and that is why they recommend not to freeze, thaw, and eat. As we are going away I thought it would be ok to keep in freezer for meals. Now looks like we have a whole chicken to eat tonight!!

I have bought them and used them cold. And made things out of the leftovers - which then you could freeze, ie a chicken pie, soup or such. But obviously something like that is then cooked again after coming out of the freezer.

I wouldn't ever just thaw cooked frozen chicken and eat like that....
BUt another meal made and then cooked after thawing, yes. Cook fully so it is hot all the way through....

All good, thank you for your help. I will think of some meals to cook using it up then freezing that way. Think that will be safer.

Ive done it a couple of times and had no problems. I freeze it into 3-4 ziplock bags, thaw it out in the fridge and eat it on sandwiches, wraps, salads etc etc. I do get thru it pretty quickly once its thawed, its not hanging around for days and days. As long as its not sitting out on the bench for any length of time, and you freeze it pretty quickly I dont see a problem.
