| I am looking for any information on Frederick Edmund Hogan Ryan Cade. He was born Dec 4th 1871 in Christchurch Hosp to (my Great Grandmother ) Elizabeth Beatrice Ffrancis Anne Cade. Father unknown. Elizabeth moved to Naseby in 1873 but there is no mention of her son. kmr48 - 2020-02-12 14:13:00 |
| Could you provide a bit more information about Elizabeth? I'm just thinking if I could find her or her family then we might be able to track Frederick. daisy86 - 2020-02-12 21:09:00 |
| I do know a bit about Elizabeth, she was born in 1844 & lived in Eton, Buckinghamshire with her parents & siblings. She emigrated to NZ in 1869 to Lyttleton, from there she went onto Naseby in 1873 where she married my Great Grandfather, John Deaker in 1874. They went on to have 6 children. I have recently learnt she had a son (who I am inquiring about ) in December 1871, born in Chch. I have a copy of his birth registration, but have no idea what would have happened to him since. Would like to fill that gap. Edited by kmr48 at 11:20 am, Thu 13 Feb kmr48 - 2020-02-13 11:18:00 |
| have you checked birth microfiche to see if he was adopted after birth and will have a new name crab2 - 2020-02-13 12:24:00 |
| crab2, thanks for replying. No I haven't. I'm guessing that is what happened or he died as an infant before Elizabeth moved away from Christchurch. kmr48 - 2020-02-13 16:47:00 |

| Thanks Vicky for your reply. That has filled in a gap re her son. The piece in Papers Past is her, she certainly had an interesting & I guess sad life early on.Where did you find the info re her sons death? kmr48 - 2020-02-14 10:33:00 |
| Well done Vicky, that's some super sleuthing! Kmr - the info has come from the NZ BMD records daisy86 - 2020-02-14 16:30:00 |
| Certainly was on Vickys part. daisy Thanks for the bdm info,I have a copy of his birth reg from them, now to find where he was buried. kmr48 - 2020-02-16 11:08:00 |
| kmr48 don't you think it's alittle strange that birth certificate is under 'Cade' death is under 'Oliver' and the Papers Past article says all 3 travelled together. What do you think . vicki610 - 2020-02-16 17:15:00 |

| Vicky & daisy, you are right it has been confusing the change of surname in the birth & death notices of the baby. Cade was her maiden name. So far we havent been able to find any info on the " ? Oliver " who she supposidly married & died on the way to NZ.The only record I have is of an Elizabeth Cade on the "Light Brigade" arr in Lyttleton in 1868 & her age as 24 which does tie in. On her marriage Cert to John Deaker she has her surname there as Oliver & a Widow. On the copy of the birth reg of Edmund, the father is unlisted & baby illigitiimate. Certainly an interesting & trying one !!!! kmr48 - 2020-02-18 14:24:00 |
| Is this her with her family in the 1851 Census? Name: Elizabeth F A Cade daisy86 - 2020-02-19 16:42:00 |
| Thanks Daisy, yes that is her. In the Census in 1861 she isn't mentioned, she would have been 17 then so guess she had left home, even looking up some of her siblings in the later years there was no mention of Elizabeth. Not much luck looking for info about her on her arriving in NZ until after 1874 when she had married & settled in Naseby. So a wee bit of a gap there between 1851 - 1871 when she had the baby in Chch Maybe a change of surname, I'm just not sure. Also she seemed to add Beatrice to her names when in NZ. It is proving an interesting challange doing her research kmr48 - 2020-02-20 16:43:00 |
| Yes, she is a tricky one. It seems the details of her early life in that obituary does not tie in with the truth. There is an account by the Captain of the Light Brigade on that voyage in Paper Past. He records all the births and deaths that occurred but no mention of an "Olliver". Did you see his name on the manifest? daisy86 - 2020-02-21 09:10:00 |
