Mark Barr b 1864 in Wanganui, married in Whanganui in 1895 to Margaret Jane Fowler born 1867 in Wanganui.

They then disappeared from records but I found them quite by accident on the Egmont electoral roll for 1914 at a place called Moeroa, which is inland from Stratford. Quite remote I'd imagine. I've not found them on the death index, the burial CD or the cemeteries around the district. So their data is incomplete. Would there be a cemetery in that area?

BAY OF PLENTY TIMES, VOLUME LI, ISSUE 8224, 24 FEBRUARY 1923
A BACKBLOCKS TRAGEDY
A well-known settler in the Eltham district in the person of Mr Mark Barr,
met a lonely death while riding along a backblocks road at Moeroa last week. Word of the tragedy was received at the police station in the afternoon, and Dr Cooper and Constable Townsend went out.immediately.
However, Barr was dead. He lived beyond Moeroa, and left about 9 oYlock
in the morning, riding a horse bareback, to confer with a neighbour about
some mustering. At 1 o’clock he had not returned, and, thinking he might be mustering down the road, his grown-up son rode along the track.
He was attracted by the antics of deceased’s dog, which stopped at a point
where the road overlooks an almost sheer drop of seventy or eighty feet
into the Moeawata Stream. Looking over the bank he saw his father’s horse
on a ledge half-way down, and his father face downwards on the slope
just below. With the aid of some other settlers the body was recovered,
the front of the skull being almost shattered, with blood issuing from
the ears and mouth. Apparently, says the Argus, deceased was riding along
when the horse' suddenly shied, and made a clean jump over the cliff,
breaking through, the fringe of vegetation at the roadside, and landing
upon the ledge thirty feet below. Barr must have fallen underneath the
horse, and thus sustained his death. The horse was unhurt.
The late Mr Barr was 59 years of age, and leaves a widow and
two grownup sons. His death has caused widespread sorrow.
