Steamed in a steamer over a pot if you have one.

Runner beans are only good if you use them while they are young. Don't forget to take off the stringy edges by running a knife down each side about a cm in and then discarding it. Steam to cook. The bigger runner beans are very tough when cooked hence the need to use them when they are young.

Use a bean slicer (as per link) to cut them into 'strings' and cook (or freeze) them. Makes them more palatable than in large chunks.

Steam young runner beans until just tender but with a bit of crunch (test one) and serve with a knob of butter and salt and pepper to taste.

Depends which type. I grow Shiny Fandelosa. Tender, stringless.
Most beans I had before I'd describe as eating carpet....meh.

Now different tastes,we grew stringless this year and found them tasteless against the ones you have to string will be going back to the oldies next year.

You have to catch them first.

Shiny Fardelosa beans are quite different to what we call runner bears ...aka Scarlet Runner beans.

I love runner beans but only the flat one's, dislike the Chinese round ones, but cannot afford them at $27 a kilo.
