3 | Good news. Many thanks for posting the link. When I first learnt that I had Irish ancestors I hoped that I would find a Pat Murphy among them, who was pretty much the leading character in every Irish joke that did the rounds at that time. Not only did I find one, but I also have Pat's best mate, Pat Mathews. The one in the jokes always had two t's in his surname, but we all know that spelling wasn't all that important in the olden days. Patrick Mathews, b. Abt 1761; m. Mary Cunningham (1755-1850); d. 20 Jun 1846; bur. 22 Jun 1846, Dromin, County Louth. Patrick Murphy married Mary Emily Hampton.
