#Post

Got some stunning ones at the local market today......had for lunch stuffed with ricotta and drizzled with a tiny bit of raw honey. Have served that for light and fresh dessert before but it makes for a nice light lunch as well!

They were hot house...........huge. Delicious. Wish I had room for a fig tree. There is a massive one in a reserve on a walk I do most days; trouble is the birds all get to the ripe ones before I can.

They ARE glorious, aren't they?

I love them fresh, as you do them awoftam, but even more I love them halved, placed cut-side up in a buttered casserole dish, drizzled liberally with honey, and with the juice of 2 lemons and 1/3 cup of water around them, and baked slowly until soft, and served with whipped cream or yoghurt. Takes me back to eating them like that in south-eastern Turkey.....

OMG that sounds delicious! If the fig man was still here I'd get some more to try that! They were $3-00 each so a bit of an indulgence but I didn't regret a mouthful. So yum.

I have 4 trees in huge pots so I can move them into a better spot in winter. The very worst thing about growing figs are they are not on my eating plan. I started growing them as a hobby. I may taste one off each tree and then feed the birds. We have our Native Tui come in to eat on the flax flowers I hope they like figs too.
