Training treats need to be small and soft so they can be eaten on the move without choking - I do make dog treats but it was easier to cut up small pieces of dog roll specifically for training treats.

They love the possyum dog roll...it's not wet like most, easy to cut into little treat bits, doesnt stink, Available in 2 sizes.
I see they also now make zip-lock bags of dog treats.

Thanks for the ideas, but I do not want to buy food that comes wrapped in plastik, therefore make my own.

I get that but baked treats can be a choking hazard when you’re training - it needs to be something soft that can be eaten on the move whereas a crunchy treat your dog will need to stop and eat which breaks the flow and acts as too much of a distraction. Cheese would be ok, cat biscuits are generally too high in protein for dogs. Maybe something like a doggy birthday cake and break off bits when you need them. There are recipes on Pinterest - I used one that was peanut butter and carrot with apple.

I used to buy raw liver, slice it thinly and dry it out in a low oven. Smell was not that great. You can dry it out to whatever level you want, soft, firm or really dry and crunchy. Worked a treat!!

Like liver jerky - good idea - mine would love that and would be a reasonable price too

What about a tiny sliver of cheese. Is soft, will melt, and worked for my dog. The vet recommended cheese as training treat. But it is only a sliver.
