1 | My cousin in Northern Ireland sent me a copy of a certificate, I have been wanting to see this piece of family history for decades. finally today it arrived on email, but it has come out very dark.. what I can make out is: Mariners Certificate for Daniel McCafferty of Island of Magee old spelling for Islandmagee near Larne.. it is numbered 70412 date of birth was 1814. he said he must have served as Boy. Mate and Master Mariner and spent some times on foreign shores.. he said the date he can make out is 1850ish.. Now wondering how do we trace ship.... Naval?. Now my mothers side of the family her mother was Elizabeth Campbell nee Mc Cafferty so must come down through her, Elizabeth married a Nathaniel Campbell who died early, I never met him and I was born 1943 in London. I know Nathaniel and Elizabeth married at Larne. Northern Ireland so she must have been from that town/area, her sister never married was Anna Mc Cafferty and talk about strict!!! I remember her so well.. we used to have school holidays in Northern Ireland (I didnt come to NZ until 1970) Would love to know anything about Daniel, the certificate is very frail. luckily today he actually copied it for me, have asked enough times!!! neich - 2020-01-08 20:14:00 |
