Id on family line difficult

#Post
1

James McDonald married Minnie and had Kath, Jim, Connie, Irene, Phyllis, Ruby and Nora. James was born 1884 in Coromandel supposedly died in 1964.

I'm having trouble finding anything on him and his family but I don't have the fiche, only the index online and so without his wife's real name, it's like flying blind. Could someone please look it up on fiche for me.

To add, I've tried: ancestry.com, index 5, burial locator, marriage cd, nz bdm online, archway, Auckland cemetery search. I think the fiche will give the clues.

How do you know he married Minnie?

The electoral rolls should help too

I have a diagram here and a wonderful annotated photograph of the whole family. The photograph was taken in Auckland and the costumes look to be late 40's or early 50's. James McDonald in the electoral rolls, yes, there are two many of them.

Was that her real name do you think? Or short for Mary, Eleanor, Amelia etc. I don't mind doing the hard yards looking but I just thought that if it was not Minnie, I'd never find it.

Possibly the same Minnie McDonald who has a probate file on Family Search. Was a widow and died in Oamaru 29 Sept 1960. Used to live in Totara. In her will she only names her three daughters Minnie, Elizabeth and Flora.

I found them on the Remuera electoral roll for 1938, I searched on Constance Isabel MacDonald and found her at home, spinster with her father, James, sisters, Ruby Margaret and Phillis Stewart, mother, Mary Helena. Now for the rest of it.

Thanks Carbs, I found James died 1964 also cremated at Purewa. Not much information there. Mary Helena Mullins, birth around 1886, where not known. They married in 1903. Paperspast is not working well for me at the moment so I couldn't see if it hit the news.

There are family trees at Ancestry that claim your James MacDonald is a son of Hugh Somerville Macdonald (died 1914) and Jane Stewart (died 1929), buried Buffalo Coromandel.
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/185417915

I can't verify the claimed connection, but you can see Ancestry at a Selwyn library for free.

A copy of the 1964 death printout ($25) from
www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz
should verify (or otherwise) the connection.

Yes, i had to look that up on the map, it's in Northern Ireland, for some reason I thought it was in the south. I have her death cert, it said her parents were Joseph Stewart and Mary Senior.
