I need some inspiration please!

I am having around 16 people for breakfast on Xmas day. We usually have croissants with bacon and eggs or ham and pineapple, a bbq with meat and seafood, fritters of some sort, fruit, and a little finger food. I would like to have something different which doesn’t mean I have to slave in the kitchen for hours. I would be grateful for some suggestions!

Wow - that’s a lot of different dishes - what about kedgeree? Or congee? I recently had a delicious black rice pudding with coconut yoghurt and mango.

Goodness me, that sounds very elaborate for breakfast. Sarahb' s suggestion of kedgeree is a very good idea as all of the components can be prepared the previous night and the dish assembled and heated half an hour before you serve it. It is gluten-free too, which is useful.

So what time would you like us there?

what about something like waffles or pancakes as well - though what you've got sounds pretty good to me too!!

This year it's just us for Christmas breakfast (before we go to the SIL's for a late lunch), so I've told the kids that they all have to produce something for a shared breakfast.... Mr 15 is making his favourite savoury scones, Miss 11 is making french toast, hubby's cooking bacon, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms on the BBQ and I'll sort our a fruit platter, or something, I think...... as well as eggs I guess..... but, if nothing else, it'll be a fun start to the day :o)

I did a sausage bake one year - just breakfast sausages, red capsicum, red onion chopped up and cooked in the oven.
Served with crusty bread and scrambled eggs.
Was super easy and no time away really from the goings on to prepare it other than the eggs - you could do the eggs cooked in muffin tins in the oven.
Also maybe a fruit salad
We start our day with a trifle. I love trifle for breakfast boxing day so we decided a few years ago why wait till boxing day

I did a baked French toast one year - very easy and all the preparation can be done the night before but I love the idea of trifle for breakfast - traditionally we have a dessert only dinner over the holiday period because we could never decide what we liked best

My go to is fresh fruit salad (pineapple, rockmelon, strawbs, blueberries), with fresh ricotta, greek yoghurt, cream, nuts, toasted sesame seeds and honey on the side. Fresh brewed coffee, a variety of teas, brioche and sour dough to toast, as people like. Really easy, fresh, filling and relaxed.

Merry Christmas.
