How many 4th cousin or closer DNA matches do you have?. I realise it is all dependent on how many people from your family trees have tested. I recently did my DNA test and now have 456 4th cousin or closer matches (which I think is quite good), my partner has 194. Although my partner is British and it was mentioned that UK people are not doing as many DNA tests as NZ/Australia. I am NZ born with ancestors arriving here from the 1840s onwards so possibly a lot more of my group are testing for that reason, to see where they came from and make connections.
Last week I attended a DNA talk and it was mentioned that Ancestry are doing a lot of promotions in the UK at the moment (trying to boost numbers tested in countries where the figure is low) so expect quite a few more UK connections to appear possibly around February/March once people have tested and received their results. They had Ant & Dec having their DNA tested (I think for a TV show) which may hopefully encourage more people to do the same.

I am viewer/manager for 12 Ancestry tests. 4th cousins and closer lowest is 180, highest 805.

I'm the viewer/manager for 11 AncestryDNA tests. The three who live in the UK have between 267 and 422 4th cousins or closer, the one who lives in the US has 1,000+, and the seven who live in NZ have between 279 and 399.

Much of our family has been in NZ since the mid 1800s and so many of the matches in that group are NZ or Australia and mostly easily identifiable.

The amount of DNA you share with another tester determines which category your match goes in. The DNA is measured in centimorgans (CM). And the Ancestry categories of 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousins are just general categories - they often include several other types of relationships.

In your test results Ancestry gives you a clear list of matches and which category the match is in, also how many CM. You can look up the CM on DNA painter CM tool to see what other relationships it could include.

Ancestry categories:
Parent/Child - about 3275CM
Full Sibling - 2400-2800CM
Close family - 1450-2050CM
1st cousin - 680-1150CM
2nd cousin - 200-620CM
3rd cousin - 90-180CM
4th cousins - 20-85CM
