can I use normal chia vs ground in tortillas?

#Post

Want to make restricted-diet-friendly tortillas but just realised the recipe calls for ground chia seeds, and I only have the normal version. Can I sub these out? If I soak the chia first in the water from the recipe? A friend is coming over to help out as I'm ill, so was going to get her to do it and can't get to a store beforehand... thanks! (or if you have a GREAT dairy-free, gluten free and grain free tortilla recipe that also does not include psyllium, tapioca or potato starch I'd be your friend for life).

Did you find anything? Whereabouts are you? If nearby,I am happy to drop off a grinder for you to grind your own?

Grind the seeds before you use them rather than add them to the water - if you do that they will expand and form a gel which may not be what you want

unknowndisorder that is very kind of you - I'm in West Harbour, West Auckland. I haven't been well enough to go hunting in stores, but may be able to look/ring around this week as I'm recovering slowly. If I'm desperate (and you're nearby) I'll let you know, that's really nice of you to offer. I'd try another recipe but this is the only one I've found that doesn't contain all sorts of other ingredients I can't have.

I am in Te Atatu, which isn't far (plus I often go to North West/Westgate). If you need to, set up a coffee listing for me :)

Thank you unknowndisorder - have decided to try to grind them myself (it's not a big amount) in a mortar and pestle. Hopefully that works. Thanks again.
