Access a copy of a will

#Post
1

I am searching for a copy of a will of a person who died in Auckland in 2016.

I understand that probate on wills in Auckland after 2013 is done at the Wellington High Court and I must write to the Registrar to obtain a copy and a $30 fee is payable. Am I Correct?

Does 'writing' mean snail mail or email?
Do I need to include a cheque? Can I pay online?
What else should I know?

From 4 June 2013 all applications for probate have been filed at the Wellington High Court.

The fee to search probate (court) records and to look at the file is $30.

There is contact information here for the Wellington High Court.

Send them an email & I'm sure they'll answer the how to pay questions.

Not everyone who dies has a will that goes to probate. If their assets were below the value set probate is not needed

I have another question...

I have a copy of a relatives will which was actioned after his death in 1947, went through NZ probate and has a certificate from the Auckland Stamp Duties Office.
It states a sealing fee payable to the Supreme Court.
Would I be correct in assuming this was some sort of Inheritance Tax now abolished and the figure printed would be a % of the estate total value?

Isn't there a wait time of 50 years or something? Am I up the wrong tree again?

probate documents can be sealed. The stamp is the fee for sealing probate, nothing to do with stamp duties.

Again I am afraid.
