Ready cooked frozen meals ex the Supermarket

#Post

Is there a brand or type of frozen meal that is better tasting than others? -- I have to send Hubby off with some pre-cooked meals next week and thought I could add a few already cooked from the supermarket (ie cheat a little LOL)

Thanks

I cant help with the supermarket meals, but I supply 5 meals each week for my other half, usually frozen meat, ie chops, meat patties, chicken wings etc marinated in a ziploc bag, pot of mashed spud and a big pot of coleslaw, otherwise extra meals made up the week before and put in tin foil containers with cardboard lids from the supermarket. It also depends if there is a microwave, oven or elements where theyre going, mine often gets just a frying pan.

The "in house" ones made by some supermarkets (Countdown and New World) in some areas are way better than the Watties-type ones, although mainly roasts. Also consider Eat meals or Made meals
https://www.getmade.co.nz - larger meals than the Eat ones
https://www.eat.co.nz

Eat meals can be paid by cr/dr card or internet banking, as can Made (part of the MyFoodBag group. The getMADE ones you have to leave your dr/cr card there, but can just click "skip a delivery" as often as needed. Their Spring Chicken pie, and Creamy Lamb Moussaka are particularly nice. With two of us often very unwell, it's so handy to have these good pre-prepared meals ready to go in around 20 minutes (less with microwave).

These arrive chilled (getMADE on a Sunday night, and are chilled, but last up to 10 days in fridge, or can be frozen. Their disadvantage is they need either a microwave or oven (regular or benchtop - and you can buy benchtop ones really cheap in some op shops....) to cook.

I have found Tomorrows frozen meals quite good. They are available in many of the supermarkets.

The pulled pork one and beef casserole one are both yummy. About $10 each.

Getting back to the "in House " supermarket meals, specifically New World. How is it best to heat these please. I'm presuming in the oven but what temperature and for how long? Ours never seem to have instructions.

These are fresh but can be frozen - I’ve had the cottage pie and it was delicious and the lasagne was enjoyed by my fussy son

Tomorrows meals are only 400 gm - my adult son would eat 2 of those in one sitting

The Rosies Kitchen ones are 350g - plenty big enough for my adult son but he adds vegetables

Aaaah but does he do weight training? Vegetable don't give the protein he needs

Keep an eye on the size.
I find the size right for lunch, but small for dinner

I decided to buy a couple of the Tomorrows meals, from recommendations from here, and I had the roast beef last night, and I really enjoyed it, and there was plenty for a night time meal.

I usually have a couple of ready meals in the freezer for nights when I’m home alone so that I still eat properly otherwise it tends to be cheese, crackers, chips, more cheese, more crackers and possibly more chips too ????

Just wanted to say thank yhou for the heads up about tomorrows meals. We tried the roast pork and roast lamb last night and very impressed. They will be a great alternative to EAT meals etc.

Tomorrows meals are really nice. I also found a nice range of pre- prepared curries at Countdown in their chiller deli section. The brand is "Tulsi Express". 320g servings for one. Really tasty
