Brother of O Harris/Wanganui - soldier's death

#Post
1

I've no idea where to start, but have this lovely letter that was to my grandfather. Time I did some homework.

O Harris, "Devona", Duncan Street, Wanganui East (1917)

Looking for somebody - what are my chances of tracking down the writer or writer's family of this letter? This letter was written to my grandfather to thank him for his letter. It seems He wrote to the family to advise the circumstances about a death in their family and the sister has replied. It is signed by O Harris who is married, so no doubt a different surname to her brother who was killed. The letter came from "Devona", Duncan Street, Wanganui East and written on 24 January 1917. It refers to Albert who was killed. I would love to learn more about this and the family. It was written to George Keen who came from Timaru.

I'm not sure how to add a photo of the letter.

Hello everybody.
I'm finally back! Thank you all so much on the wonderful research you have done on my behalf. You've hit the jackpot and I'm delighted at what you have found, information I didn't believe possible. I've also had some great help from a site on Facebook, so absolutely thrilled with what has been revealed.
Words can't express how happy we are to have been led the the lovely write up about our Grandfather (George Keen) through the Timaru museum. I had been able to find some Army records of service, but hadn't known about that link, plus many others that have come out.
I've also learnt more about our great-uncle (grandfather's brother) who was killed in action.

So thanks again, it is all very much appreciated! I have been soaking up the new information.

when I was searching for a name some time back and in Whanganui, I wrote to the local paper, no sooner the letter was printed I had a phone call, someone in the town knew exactly what I needed for this person I quoted.. so have a go that way, in short it was a student of going back to the 1800s who had won a book written by Charles Rooking Carter, I had to find out more about the student and this person said he had actually researched him and gave me all the information I needed. Luck was in that day! so thanked the paper and the caller..
