My grandmother, I have no birth or death dates for her and wondered if someone could have a look for me. I believe she was born in Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand, I'm not sure when, died here around 1910 but again I'm not sure, Aikenhead was her maiden name, her married name was McQuay, husband was Samuel McQuay. There was little talk about the paternal line growing up and didn't think to ask, I've only just learnt that she was actually born in Scotland and not New Zealand.

Thank you so much for all this information and your time in finding it, it is all helping me build a picture of a family I really know little about. They certainly moved around a fair bit but Granpa McQuay was a bit of a rascal to say the least and I don't think Marion's life was easy.
Again,Thank You.

Yes, Samuel seems to have been a rascal. His name appears many times in paperspast, often in front of a judge lol.
This really made me smile. It sort of reminded me of my father-in-law being charged with going through a red light on his bicycle lol.
WAIKATO TIMES, VOLUME 95, ISSUE 14915, 5 APRIL 1922
Samuel McQuay, of Rototuna, who was found swaying about in the saddle while his steed ambled through Victoria Street yesterday, afternoon, was fined £3 this morning for being drunk while in charge of a horse.

can I ask what the NR stands for and is there anyway we can find out to whom Doris was married. I believe she had3/4 husbands and 2 daughters who were born in the 1940s during her marriage to a gentlemen whose surname was also Aikenhead.

Mrs T you will find it easier to find the family if you spell the surname correctly it has a T in it as Aitkenhead

This is very interesting as I knew of Alan's existence but the 2 daughters I knew were Aitkenhead, so I don't know who the other children could have been, the girls ages would have not fitted birth much before the 1940s, another mystery.

that makes me wonder if he knew my father who was also serving up in Suva at that time, might be the connection. Thank you for all the work you are doing on this.
