Very early into our search for bio parents/whanau and no high CM hits - loads of 3/4 cousin hits as to be expected but it's a minefield.

Anyway....are there any facebook pages which are predominantly Kiwi, I'm following a couple on FB but there is a LOT of American input and while that is awesome, I'm hoping for something closer to home.

Most of the groups suggested are good. If you have Maori heritage I would strongly recommend "Polynesian DNA" over and above the rest.

My daughter has "Polynesian DNA". Trying to get her to do GEDmatch to see if there are closer family there. We have all done Ancestry, but GEDmatch has more other sites connecting.

upload to Gedmatch, also upload to Family Tree DNA as well and it's free with the options of buying to unlock more

When you say upload to gedmatch, how does that work, does the program/site draw it from ancestry?

Register with GEDmatch and when in you will see the following links.

Upload your DNA files:
Generic Uploads (23andme, FTDNA,
AncestryDNA, most others

MyHeritage is similar.

FTdna and GEDMatch are the two best sites to upload to for Maori/Polynesian as you can filter out the smaller endogamous segments when comparing matches. This is a great FB page with heaps of information on how to read and interpret Polynesian DNA.

Thanks mousiemousie, I did upload the dna to gedmatch but I admit I have no idea what to do with it now...I've joined the facebook page though.
