Fillings for Sandwich Maker Please.

#Post
1

I have just bought a Sunbeam '' Big Fill Toastie Maker '' and would welcome some suitable tried and true fillings please. The deep dishes would hold generous sandwich fillings and I can imagine they would be a meal in themselves with a bowl of soup etc. Would I be able to use pastry ? Such as bacon and egg ? Thanks in anticipation.

Yes you should be able to do pastry. Would be not much difference between that a a pie maker. Smashed potatoes are great in them too. Think what you would put on a pizza and use the toppings as a filling instead?

I've had the same machine for a while, and it's great, but it only takes a bit more filling than other machines, so you don't end up with HUGE toasties. I haven't tried raw egg or bacon; I precook bacon and very lightly fry an egg to make bacon, egg, cheese and tomato toasties. Leftover mince or casserole works really well. I've found it a bit too deep for smashed potatoes as they don't crush down enough, but love them in a sandwich press.

Thanks ''kaddiew''. I'm starting to think I might be able to use left-over butter chicken ? Not that there is any that is left over, I'll just make extra and freeze ?

That would work well ! As would (for those who like them) baked beans, creamed corn, stewed apples or any canned fruit and so on. The possibilities are endless; I've just not been very imaginative, cooking for one!

OP- beware with this machine, if you use gravy/sauce. Because it has deeper "pockets", it also has has numerous deep ridges and indentations that are a real pain to clean out if the sandwiches ooze. I spent ages last night doing just that.
