| Will you take a table to put your goodies on? Will you also take a small cooker to make tea and coffee with? Do you want finger food or are you taking crockery (paper plates) and cutlery? What about a BBq - taking one of those? If so will it be covered like a weber? These might help others with suggestions. buzzy110 - 2019-08-25 12:48:00 |
| When it comes to suggestions what do you normally have for Christmas lunch? Is it all cooked and just main and dessert or do you have a combination of hot and cold? Seeing it is Christmas and you say you want to ramp up the quality of the offerings: Cherries, strawberries and fresh cream would always be on my menu I buy oysters in the half-shell from the local oyster farm Ham - would be nice if it was on the bone and carved at the picnic A baked and cold salmon fillet A bowl of sliced tomatoes, feta and fresh basil salad Vinaigrette, chimchurri sauce, pesto and other salad dressings to suit you Broccoli salad with pinenuts and bacon Marinated mushrooms (I can give you a recipe if you want to go to the bother of making your own Bocconcini cheese balls stuffed into pitted apricots I'd forgo garden salads and take a whole iceberg lettuce with the core removed - just thump and twist and out it comes. People can help themselves to whole leaves which they could use to wrap up their food in if they wanted A really nice new potato salad buzzy110 - 2019-08-25 12:57:00 |
| what a wonderful idea, I tempted to do the same, no dishes, no room issues no bloody fighting. Paper plates and sammies, sounds good to me madoof1 - 2019-08-25 14:17:00 |
| Did this for years with our small family. Good bread, ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce, pate, dressings. lesleyd3 - 2019-08-26 21:38:00 |
| I am very tempted to do this.Sounds so relaxed.Would need to take chairs and our trusty gazebo shelter. Only drawback might be the weather? genpat - 2019-08-27 01:48:00 |

Shhhhh about the weather....haha....I thought that too but didn't want to put a downer on OP. Here's hoping for fabulous picnic weather on Christmas Day! herself - 2019-08-27 09:43:00 |
| Tried that many years ago and just before we left we had a massive storm with hail building up like snow. Was a great day though, too many people crammed into our tiny rental, good company and plenty of food. Many other Christmas Days have been forgotten but this I still remember decades later. kacy5 - 2019-08-27 18:14:00 |
