Icing Recipe for writing please

#Post
1

Hi, I have bought a large iced slab cake for a birthday party and I want to write "Happy Birthday..." on it. Can anyone please give me a sure fire recipe for the icing for writing. I was going to buy a tube of readymade from Spotlight but they were out of stock in white. Have bought a number 5 nozzle (everyone was sold out of number 4).
As you can probably tell, I am not a confident baker/confectioner but feel if I have the right consistency I will be OK.
Thanks.

My first response would have me sent for a TMMB 'holiday'. However, even as a novice, you can do it. You say your writing will be white. You'll need to make an icing-sugar+water mix, with a LITTLE butter. Put 2 cups of icing-sugar in a bowl and add water, just a dribble at a time, mixing all the while with a wooden spoon. While it still seems crumbly, add about a heaped tsp of soft butter. Keep mixing, adding a little water until ready for piping. Try a small amount for consistency. Have a few goes on a sheet of baking paper. Wishing you the best!!
