new World Onekawa, napier

#Post
1

I bought two packs of lam racks from local Napier New World the other day.
I have noticed that one they smell a bit and two the labels have new ones stuck over.
The new ones have the packed on date increased by 9 days. The expiry has been increased by 4 days.
And the price on them has INCREASED.

i saw the butchery manager -a Brandon - and he said the label machine was broken that day.
An illogical nonsensical excuse.

I said fine I'll take it further then and he snatched them off me, screwed them up and put his hands behind his back.
He refused to give them back, sniggering, I had to physically wrestle them back off him.
Which he kind of allowed, n=being a physical battle, because we were in full view of the checkout staff and two customers in the store.

Shocking behaviour in my mind, never mind the lies on the labels - what that manager did!!

I don't take anything on trust at any supermarket. Our local New World has a fish counter which more often than not has good fish, however sometimes the tuna and salmon look terrible, and when I've asked if they have any that's fresher I get told that it all came in fresh this morning and was filleted today. Either they are blatantly lying or it came in stale and they are too ignorant or apathetic to know the difference.

I did have one good score though, some beef eye fillet was erroneously labelled as pork rump and priced accordingly.

I did take it further.
It wasn't so much the price, in fact I checked it, grams x price per kg listed. It was more the date. Even if he had said oh it was a printing mistake, you don't change the dates.
and most of all, which really got me angry was his behaviour. Not the label so much.
To stand there snickering, holding his hands closed an away after snatching. Is the guy 30 something or 5?
New World HO emailed and said the store owner will contact me.
Uh, no thanks, I want nothing more to do with a shop that changes dates and then has managers like that.

Anyone faced with the same situation can learn from this: take pix, before going back to the store....

Disgusting behaviour from a supposedly grown man, though, in this case)

I would imagine it happens mostly in the foodstuffs stores, being independently owned, the managers are more concerned about losing a dollar if a product is nearing the end of its shelf life.

I hope you take the time to speak to the store owner anyway. The issue you have identified needs to be sorted out to ensure it doesn't happen again to anyone else.

I hope you reach an amicable arrangement or consensus even though you may wish to never shop in that particular store again.

If not then you can take it higher than the store owner. Despite what has been said in another post, Foodstuffs demand that stores carrying their brand meet exacting standards and will take action to protect their brand. In your case, those standards have not been met.

Well the local news person talked to them. They say the issue was the label printer was broken that day.
What? No. I used to fix those machines....broken does not mean it prints a different label with amended price and a bunch of new dates, 9 days different.
And regardless, why didn't they just say, made a mistake with label, no he snickered and snatched them off me and hid them behind his back, refusing to give them back to me.
Thats' what got me....

When CD opened a new shop in this area, without a major supermarket, it was amazing to see some stock very close to be out of date. We wondered if all the old stock from their other supermarkets was collected to be sold there knowing how busy it would be for a few days. A friends yoghurt definitely wasn't fresh.

I bought a pizza at another of their openings some years ago and when opened it stunk so badly even putting it in the freezer until I could return it didn't help. They certainly couldn't argue it wasn't rotten.
