Public libraries and Ancestry

Can anyone enlighten me on this. Is there a cost of going to a library and doing research on Ancestry? Any caveats as opposed to signing up personally? TIA

I’ve used the library sub when I can’t afford to have my own and didn’t notice any tangible differences other than only being able to search during opening hours. The library version doesn’t cost you anything, and you can even email any records you want to keep to yourself. I wouldn’t expect that you could see any DNA results, but other than that it’s a good option, especially if you are new to genealogy or aren’t sure what type of personal subscription you might need and want to take a ‘test drive’.

Yes it's a good way to go to the Library but I'm not sure if this is just a local library rule or it's every library but time is limited to 30 minutes a day which I found somewhat frustrating but I am Technology Challenged.

Our library has a 30 min. limit but sometimes it can be extended if heaps of people don't want the computers. School holidays are not a good idea because every kid in the area wants to use the computers. Other libraries have an hour limit and again will extend. As poster 2 said you can send info. home which is really useful.

The computers at our local time out every 30 minutes but I’ve spent hours doing research. The reboots are annoying, but haven’t yet been pulled up for going over time. In saying that, I’m in a major city so that probably helped as there were multiple computers on multiple floors, plus tried to avoid busier times of day too.

Joined up yesterday. Was told I would have a 4 hour limit. Haven't been in and tested yet tho. Just a small library too.
