My nearly four year old Dell Laptop does not have a cd/dvd player. My daughter's is a year old but a higher spec one and her's has one.

Success with the virtual drive, the burial cd now works without the disc. Now I've just got to do the same with the marriage cd.

Well today in the shop they searched for it, there were one or two heavier, more expensive laptops with them, but 30 without so preserve your laptop, the replacement is going to be difficult.

With the advent of usb sticks etc dvd/cd drives seem to have fallen by the wayside and, as you found, are often not standard on new pc's/laptops. I'm surprised the shop you went to didn't tell you about portable dvd/cd drives which use a usb connection. When the dvd/cd drive on my pc would no longer read discs I purchased a portable one for about $50 - there are more expensive ones.
Great that the virtual one works without having to use the disc though - and cheaper lol
