Do they still exist? I haven't seen either for a long time (thank goodness). In my childhood, saveloys were brown and polonies were red, but they both tasted of mutton fat and were only edible when swamped in tomato sauce.

Only get polony in Australia and horrible very processed kind. It is yuk. I remember it being called Luncheon 10 years ago back home and you got all different flavours

A Polony is a small roll of flavoured luncheon meat, and a sav is a red saveloy, and smoked savs are brown. I think what you call them depends on where you live and what school you went to.

Used to pick up goods from a large factory owned by a Butchery chain.
The Saveloys and Polonies they made were just precooked sausages that were dipped in a colouring as they were removed (in hanks of maybe 150) from the huge tank they were simmered in.
Red for the Polonies
Brown for the Saveloys
True smoked Saveloys are a relic of the past

Butchers from those days nearly always gave a child a Cherrio to eat while serving mum. Dems woz the days.

originally polonies were coloured redas they were not smoked and savelloys were brown because they were lightly smoked
