what happened to Rebecca Gribben?

#Post

Hi, I am researching this family as part of DNA research for an adoptee, so trying to identify each sibling of the family. I have not been able to work out what happened to this sibling.

Rebecca Gribben born 30 May 1891 at Broughshane, Antrim, registration district Ballymena (registered under surname McGribben) - parents Jane Gribben and Ann Jane Linton.
1901 census at Broughshane with parents, they both died within months of cenus
1911 census at Broughshane with paternal Aunt, Annie J McClintock.

Then I cannot find a marriage or death. Can anyone else find out what happened to her?
Thanks

Can you access Find My Past? There's a piece in the Ballymena Weekly Telegraph on 8 July 1916 that says "Miss R. Gribben, Racecourse, Broughshane, Ballymena" was advised officially (by NZ authorities) that her brother Robert of the NZ Rifle Brigade had passed away. He'd emigrated to NZ 7 yrs earlier. The newspaper also mentions another brother Samuel who'd died "February last", having moved to Scotland 13 yrs earlier and marrying there. A third brother, Constable Frank Gribben, was attached to the Central Police Station in Auckland, having emigrated to NZ 7 yrs earlier. The newspaper said he'd enlisted in the NZ Expeditionary Force.

Have you found a WW1 file for either Robert or Frank on Archway? It looks like Robert at least had Rebecca down as his next of kin, so maybe there's more info on his file about her?

Have you seen this memorial entry with photo, re. Samuel (and brother Robert)? https://coatbridgeandthegreatwar.com/memorial.php?man_id=318

I had a quick look at Robert's WW1 file on Archway, and there were notes added in red pen in 1920 that refer to the brother Frank being Robert's legal next of kin (and an address is given for Frank), and that Robert's medals were sent to the sister Rebecca Gribben in Broughshane in 1919. So it looks like she was still living there in 1919.

A snippet in the Ballymena Observer on 2 March 1951 says Mrs Rebecca McClure, wife of Robert McClure, died at her home on Main St, Broughshane on 21 February 1951. The funeral was "large and representative", and she was buried in the First Broughshane burying ground.

The death notice in the Ballymena Weekly Telegraph on 23 Feb makes no mention of any children, only her husband Robert.

From GRONI:
Registration number D/1951/21/1004/13/217
Forename of deceased Rebecca
Surname of deceased McClure
Date of death 21st February 1951
Age at death 59
Sex of deceased Female
Registration district Ballymena(pre-1973 Q4)

There is also a Probate for Andrew Gribben who appears to be another brother. Alexander is execuior of his will.

Hi all,
sorry for delay replying (I have been away since opening message). That's great thanks, I had picked up the siblings. Four of Rebecca's brothers came to NZ, three were bachelors. The 1926 marriage looks like it be her. will chase that one up. thank you so much ed65, Groni is one place I had not looked.
Cheers
