It is said that you can use the same batter but I don't. I make american style pancakes. I find the waffle batter has more butter than pancake batter. Also the texture is different when using waffle iron to a hot plate. You can only experiment and found out what works for you.

Waffles have more fat and are cooked in an iron which gives them a crisp texture and an indented surface. Pancakes are cooked on a flat surface and have a softer texture. The batters have different quantities of the same ingredients, and the waffle iron needs much more greasing to stop the batter sticking in the indentations in the iron.

I use NZ Extra Virgin Olive Oil in my waffles rather than butter and they don't stick to the iron.

I make a buttermilk waffle and its completely different in recipe, texture and taste to a pancake.

Waffles have beaten egg whites in the mixture, making them lighter
