Missing child

Elizabeth Session, B est1842 Etwall,Derbyshire.
Married on 22 Aug 1870 St. Silas, Liverpool to
John Henry Boothman, B est1845 Doncaster,Yorkshire.
She D.26th Dec.1870 age 29
Tho their marriage was very short my DNA research indicates there was a surviving child of their union.
John Boothman remarried in 1872 to Elizabeth Saxelby and they had children. They would not be in my DNA.
I am finding it difficult to find a child/children of the first Mrs. Elizabeth (nee Sessions) Boothman. They would be in my DNA.
I suspect an illigit. birth but can not find that either.
It is possible that she was pregnant when at time of marriage in Aug. and died in childbirth in Dec. and that the child lived. I am curious to learn if there is a record of reason of death.
There was a notice in Derby Mercury 11 Jan 1871 plus Journal Derbyshire 13 Jan 1871, but I cant get in to read the complete articles. Any help would be awesome,Thank you.

It's probably worth your while getting Elizabeth's death certificate just so you will know the what the cause of death was.

The following birth reg'ns from 1862-1870 (source GRO UK) are the only ones where the mother's maiden name hasn't been recorded, which indicates the child was likely born to an unwed mother.

If it was me, I'd try to find where each child is when the 1871 census is taken. **Note that there's one birth that was reg'd in Derby, and Elizabeth Sessions' father lived in Markeaton, a part of which looks to have been in Derby County Borough in the 1860s.

For the purposes of elimination - Elizabeth's widowed mother Rebecca Sessions remarried in 1868, to a widower named Charles Allen. When the 1871 census is recorded the Allens are living in Smalley Mill, Derbyshire and Rebecca doesn't have any grandchildren living in the household. When the 1861 census was recorded, Rebecca was working as a cook in a school and didn't have any of her children with her.

Elizabeth Boothman (nee Sessions) had five siblings when the 1851 census was recorded, so you might want to check where they are in 1871, and whether they have a niece/nephew living in their household who might be Elizabeth's child.

I think this 25 yr old Ellen Sessions (b. Whitecross St, Derby) who's working for a vicar's family in 1891 might be the same Ellen Sessions whose birth was reg'd in Derby in 1864. There were no other births reg'd for an Ellen Sessions in Derby between 1862-1868.

Might be easier to say the child is yours rather than a grandchild. Probably a long shot, but might be worthwhile following up on Francis R Boothman.

Thank you for your suggestion. I feel there is a strong possibilty that Frances is indeed the missing child. Margaret would have had to have born him when she was 48 yrs old plus there is a 9 yr gap between her last two children. Not impossible but considering that plus date of birth I feel it is likely the child of John Henry Boothman and Elizabeth nee sessions so therefore Margarets grandchild. I guess there is no way to establish this tho?

So I guess They didnt just claim this child as their own and rename him to fit their family? I gather that the registration is all legit? That means I'm back to searching for the child of John Richard Boothman and Elizabeth Sessions.

Well, I suppose anything could be possible and perhaps there weren't quite the controls we have in place now, but the child has been registered as that of Richard Boothman and Margaret Manchin so there's no way of proving otherwise.

I think your next move should be to get Elizabeth's death certificate. You were pondering if she died in childbirth and the certificate should answer that question.
