Find my Father

#Post
1

I have done an Ancestry DNA test and have found out that my father was the Norwegian Lodger not the man my mother was married to. He was in NZ in the late 50's/60's and all I have is a name and that he was Norwegian. My mother has died now so unable to get any further information.

You might be lucky enough to find him on a passenger list although there aren't many available online for the 1950-60s. Maybe he came to NZ via Australia? If you can get access to Ancestry.com (local library) and Family Search (free to register), search for his name in these record sets:

Family Search https://www.familysearch.org/search/
1. New Zealand, Archives New Zealand, Passenger Lists, 1839-1973

Ancestry.com
1. Web: Queensland, Australia, Immigration Indexes, 1848-1972
2. Fremantle, Western Australia, Passenger Lists, 1897-1963
3. UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
4. Tasmania, Australia, Passenger Arrivals, 1829-1957
5. New Zealand, Naturalisations, 1843-1981
6. New Zealand, Electoral Rolls, 1853-1981

Electoral Rolls are only of use if he became an NZ citizen.

Here's the website https://www.ancestry.com.au/dna/ There's a sale on right now but it ends in the next day or so. $89 Australian dollars. As far as I know, this is as cheap as it gets for an AncestryDNA test.

Worth doing to find relatives, I found a second cousin who was adopted as a baby she didnt know anyone on our side of the family at all although she knew who her parents were. This has been very exciting for her and me as I introduced her to this side of the family she knew very little about and we have become friends on FB and chat regularly.
