Stewing apples

#Post
1

Just an idle thought while peeling and coring the grannies ready for the pot.

Has anyone ever stewed apples without peeling them, and if so, any regrets?

When I want apple puree i never peel them first. They are mashed with the stick blender and the peel is not noticeable, pack into bags and freeze for pies

Thanks, I’ll do that next time I want purée. Did you core them?

How do you peel your buttercup?

These are the newer plastic handle variety I had an ancient stainless steel one that I got at Moore Wilson's years ago for about $8

...with a potato peeler or knife. some people put the buttercup in the m/wave to soften the skin.

I always just chop and microwave or slow-cook them with minimal water. But then, I have an italian tomato passer. When the apples are soft and cooled I just run them through that - the puree goes out one chute, and the skins and seeds another. There is absolutely no waste, and I have velvety puree, all ready for using, freezing or bottling.
I was lucky enough to pick it up at an op shop for under $10, and I'm always loaning it to friends to process their apples, tomatoes or passionfruit.
No regrets at all!

I have often cut up my apples and stewed them without first peeling (just remove the bits of core first). They turned out very nice, stewed them in minimal amount of water, served with wipped cream.
