Wanting a small deep fryer

#Post
1

. . . there's only me and maybe one other at times.
Google, my friend, tells me there are smallish ones about but also say they need 3 litres of oil. Far too much to mess about with for, say, some battered shellfish and small patties for my dinner.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Use a deep saucepan and a thermometer to get to the right temperature.

Have tried a saucepan and a thermometer, only had it on the cook top for a wee while, put the thermometer in and - woah! wow! far too, far too hot. Also wouldn't know how to maintain the temperature. Not the world's best cook here.
But thanks for the suggestion.

Delonghi roto fry only uses 1.5 litres of oil. I live on my own and find it real good.

most elements have at least three settings - low, medium sand high.

Get an air fryer and you won't have to worry about any oil!

I used to have a small cast iron camp pot. Fill it with your oil and away you go. No need for thermometers, your element won't go higher than highest setting. Which is fine. Just obviously don't walk away and leave it and take it off the element when done, to cool.
I don't use it now as I find a tray, bit of oil and the oven is better, less messy and does the same job.

If I could cook battered oysters/mussels and a vegetable pattie made with pea flour in an air fryer - would have had one by now.
But even the sales people who suggested an air fryer said no go with the above.

Re the element settings low, medium and high - to me, it's still a bit of mucking around with a thermometer getting the temperature right. Would rather just turn a dial, to repeat, not the world's best or patient cook.

Thanks for all suggestions. Started to Google stockists, phoned one - no, they don't stock that product!!
Feel sure will be able to find one suitable from all the suggestions.

Thanks again.

When I do battered fish, I always shallow fry. I just use my normal pan, but if you're on your own, get a small omelette pan. Put about 5mm of oil in and heat. As soon as you get it hot enough, turn it down, put your battered pieces in and then adjust the heat accordingly.

put some oil in a shallow fry pan on your stove top or a electric fry pan, i just put enough oil to cook one side and then turn what i am cooking,,, i cook for my mum and myself and having a deep fryer is pointless for us, you can also put oil in a pot,, just enough oil to cover your food.. the oil level should not go over 3/4 high because the oil expand when you put food in to it,, i just put the oil through a strainer after use and put it in an air tight container,, it can be used to saute other foods, it lasts a few weeks
