Tartan

#Post

My grandaughter is interested in her Scottish roots.i was explaining about tartans and now have a question..
Both her grandfather and l have Scottish ancestry and are affiliated to several clans. Is there a right or wrong way of deciding what tartan you could wear? Or is the male line the dominant one?

my husband has scottish on both sides and they wear the Tartan for their surname not their mother's side so it would be the father's Tartan to follow Tradition

Thanks crab and nandag
Her grandfathers scots line is back on his grandmothers line so they dont use the surname.on my side its my mothers line but also my fathers from generations ago. My surname is GIFFIN which originates in Ayrshire with the barony of Giffen which is the seat of the Montgomery clan
Shes has just got interested in scottish dancing which is how the tartan topic arose
