| No he is still here sorry I thought maybe we could get something re his father of grandfather.? sue164 - 2019-04-25 13:02:00 |
| Where did you get that information? Can you ask there again for clarification or ask the children for their parents' names? If you put it in a logical order, people could offer suggestions. Start with finding his second name. amasser - 2019-04-25 13:08:00 |
| This may be the family you're looking for. In the 1911 Census of Ireland a 60 year old widower Samuel Scott is farming in Ballylinny with his unmarried sons Robert (33) & William (31), married son Samuel (35), and Samuel Jr's wife and two sons. All born in Co. Antrim. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001333061/ Edited by ed65 at 2:12 pm, Thu 25 Apr ed65 - 2019-04-25 14:11:00 |
| The scan of the original register entry on irishgenealogy.ie isn't very clear but farmer Robert Scott of Ballylinny, Ballyclare married Agnes McIlroy of Ballygallough, Ballyclare by special licence in Craigarogan, Mallusk (Templepatrick parish) on 21 January 1920. Robert's father is named as farmer Samuel Scott, and Agnes's father is named as William McIlroy, also a farmer. A Samuel Scott was one of the witnesses, as was another Scott whose first name I can't read. You can find the record for free here https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-s ed65 - 2019-04-25 14:29:00 |
| I'm not sure if this is the correct record as you have Robert's mother as Margaret Gillespie? The birth of Robert Scott at "Lisnalinchy, Ballylinney" on 14 June 1877 was reg'd by his father Samuel Scott on 5 Juy 1877 (Samuel signed his name with an 'X'). Parents of Robert recorded as Samuel Scott (farmer) and Mary (maiden name Reid), of Lisnalinchy. Farm servant & bachelor Samuel Scott of Lisnalinchy married widow Mary Gordon of Lisnalinchy in Ballylinney Presbyterian Church on 20 Feb 1875. Samuel's father is a grocer named John Scott, and Mary's father is recorded as James Reid, farmer. Source: irishgenealogy.ie ed65 - 2019-04-25 14:45:00 |

| Death notice in the Northern Whig 26 July 1930 "SCOTT - July 24, 1930, at his residence, Roughfort, Mallusk, Samuel Scott snr, late of Ballylinney. His remains will be removed for interment in Ballylinney burying ground today (Saturday) 26th inst. at 2pm. Friends will please accept this intimation. Samuel, Robert & William Scott." On checking GRONI, I can see that when the death of Samuel Scott on 24 July 1930 was registered, he was recorded as 80 years old. Which fits with the age given by the Samuel Scott from the 1911 census (in post #8). Edit: Looking at the Irish newspaper archive on FMP, it looks like Samuel Scott Jnr was farming at Roughfort so Samuel Snr was probably living in his son's household when he died in 1930. 13 | OP - if you can get access to the Irish newspapers on Find My Past, there are mentions of a Constable Cecil Scott in the 1950s and 60s. In 1952 Constable Cecil Scott was assaulted while carrying out his duties and at the hearing for his two attackers, Cecil was praised for showing "the great forbearance and self control of a man twice his age". Mind you, it's possible there were two Cecil Scotts in the police force? OP's notes suggest Cecil was married to a Daphne. In 1960 a Belfast newspaper reported on a wedding in Co. Derry where Cecil Scott, a detective constable in the R.U.C married Miss NORMA Patterson. Cecil is referred to as the son of Mr & Mrs R. Scott of Rockleigh, Kerr St, Portrush, and Cecil's brother Leslie Scott was his best man. ed65 - 2019-04-25 17:44:00 |

| Well I have tried. But it is hard to get help from the obvious folk for certain reasons. I have found that Cecil was in the Royal Ulster constabulary in Ireland And that he apparently earned a pat on the back for doing something good.about 1952. I would like to know what . I would like to know his full name and where he lived. I know he came to NZ 1960 with wife Daphne.. Any further help would be really appreciated.. sue164 - 2019-07-20 12:31:00 |
| I think the message board rule is that we can't post info on here about living people. In April you said Cecil was still here so that's why the info offered to you back then was only for Cecil's deceased family members. We can tell you where to look though... Purchase a one month sub to Find My Past, and search the Irish newspapers in the 1950s for "Cecil Scott' as there looks to be more than one mention of his sporting prowess, both on behalf of the constabulary and in a private capacity. As for the "pat on the back" you refer to c.1952, is it the incident I mentioned in post #13 above? Again, something you may find more info on by looking at the Irish newspapers on Find My Past. The Belfast street directories may help you find where he was living, but the latest entries on this website http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/ are from 1951 and 1960, and you can't search by surname - only street. You may have to read an entire directory to find him (assuming it was safe enough for anyone serving with the RUC to have their names in the directory). ed65 - 2019-07-20 13:43:00 |
| if you haven't had any subs with Ancestry or Findmypast try their 14 day free trial's and also another to consider is the newspaper.com take their 14 day free trial, just remember to not have the box to renew ticked crab2 - 2019-07-20 15:28:00 |
