steam oven

Does anyone have a steam oven - how do you use it, would you recommend one?
We need to replace our full double oven. The choice is a new double oven (they are both full size, not 1 full and 1 half) or we could get one full size oven plus a steam oven. There is only 10% difference in price between these two options so price isn't a factor in this.
I do a lot of cooking, in particular baking and so have often used both oven spaces at the same time. We have to go for one of these options - even though the kitchen isn't that old, they don't do the laminate anymore so we can't get new cupboards, shelves etc made to change the current oven opening - we need to get something that fits about perfectly into the hole and both these options fit that brief.

I know the benefits of having two full size ovens - what is the benefits of the steam (combination) oven. (I bake bread reasonably often so that could be one benefit)

We have one in a house we purchased. We never use it, it is quicker and easier to steam in the microwave. I would rather have a double oven

I had a Miele steam assisted oven in my previous house and really liked it. Great for bread and also for roasts

A steam oven, despite its name, does not steam food. It adds a shot of steam into the oven at the beginning of baking bread.

OP, if the steam oven is also a full size and the extra 10% isn't an issue then I'd go for that option. Otherwise I'd stick with an upgrade of what you currently have (I think that is 2 full size ovens) and use the old method of squirting water onto the sides of the hot oven once the dough has been put in for cooking or a small metal container with water in at the bottom of the oven.

I only say this because you say you use your ovens a lot and can easily use both at the same time. I have a small oven at the bottom of my regular size oven and quite frankly all it gets used for is storing oven trays and racks. I've used it once to reheat some frozen, homemade hot-cross buns recently but I can do that just as easily in my Weber bbq or Easy Cook. I use my Weber bbq for so much more than I ever thought possible when I first got it.

I'm interested in changing my oven & would like to hear from more people who actually have one & hear their opinions/experience.
