The recipe asks for sour cream. Can it be substituted with reduced cream or do i have to go to the shops in the pouring rain?

Vomo2 I would just use cream you have, just add a little at a time, to taste.

vomo2, I would be tempted to do the same as ruby19 and maybe, if you have it, also add a little lemon juice to taste. :-))

Plain yoghurt if you have it would also probably make a reasonable substitute.

I make it with whatever I have on hand. If it's cream I bung the lot in add a pkt of mushroom soup, tomato paste, stock and wine. Lovely!
Actually, come to think of it, it doesn't matter if I use cream or sour cream I do the same thing! Season and serve with fettuccine and garlic and parsley.
